Sarah’s Bridal Portraits

A little more than a month ago, I teased you with a couple “nondescript” shots from my sister’s bridal portrait session…with the promise that I would actually post photos once the wedding was overwith and I wouldn’t have to worry that her (then)fiance might see them.

Well, their wedding weekend came and went this past weekend (and it was definitely an intimate, very beautiful ceremony), so I wanted to take a moment to share a few of my favorites from her portrait collection.  If you click on the first thumbnail, a larger window should open up and you can scroll through the pictures by clicking on the arrows on the side of each picture.  (if this doesn’t work, please let me know and I will work on fixing it!)

Michael Andrew Photography Workshop

Someone really cool is coming to Montgomery.  This is my perhaps my biggest “claim to fame,” so I’d like to tell you a little story to give you some background:

It all started about 6 years ago.  It was my senior year of college and I had put off taking biology until the very last second.  I wasn’t looking forward to it, but…well, in order to graduate, I had to take it.  So I registered for the class, fully dreading the experience.  As it turned out, my teacher ended up being a pretty cool guy by the name of Mike.  He was an interesting sort, and made it a point to learn every name of each student in the 100+ auditorium style class.  As it turned out, he was a really good teacher, too…made the most difficult concepts incredibly easy.

I…along with (I daresay) most of the actively attending class…earned an A that semester.  And it wasn’t because this guy, Mike, was easy.  I firmly believe it was because he had a gift for making the most difficult concepts understandable.

This was biology, people.  And I made an A.  Unheard of, for me, in that subject!

I could go on, but I’ll fast forward 4 years, to the inception of Facebook.  I had graduated from college, had a job, and was – yes, becoming involved with Facebook.  I was still learning the ropes and figuring out how to be friends of friends – and all that good stuff – when I came across Mike, who was a friend of a friend (on Facebook…hang with me for a minute more!).  So we became friends on Facebook, and then I got busy with other things and left Facebook for a while.  Well, one day I came back, and there was this cool thing called a “newsfeed” – and I saw some wedding photos that Mike took.  Curiosity got the best of me – as I was really becoming serious about the whole photography business – and I looked at the photos.  I also saw that Mike (now known as Michael) had a website…so naturally, I had to check it out.

As I clicked around, I found  that Michael had an online photography school…and I took advantage of it, and learned so much!  You see, as with biology, Michael has a gift with teaching photography.  So many people are intimidated by the whole idea of photography…shutter speeds, apertures, composition.  So they shut down and don’t want to learn.  But I think that even the most intimidated person could learn, if they have the desire!

Michael has traveled all over the country, working on photo shoots, pumping up his free photography school, and creating instructional DVDs.  He can tell his stories better than anyone else, but he was once a PhD student in genetics (or something just as intimidating!)…and is now an internationally known – and award winning – photographer.

And guess what?!  He’s coming to Montgomery for an all-day workshop on June 4th!!  I’d like to extend the invitation to you, to join the fun…location TBD, from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.  It will be intensive, but it will be fun…and most of all, informative!  Space is limited to 12 people, and will be for photographers of all levels!  Click on the image below to see the flyer for this workshop.

Of course, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me…I hope you’ll be able to come!

The Dinia, Ron, & Family

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to shoot photographs for Dinia, Ron, and their family.  Like many families (or mine, at least!), they live in different areas, so it’s not often that they’re all together at one time…so it’s a big deal when they are all at the same place at the same time!  The occasion that brought them all together was actually a larger family reunion, for which I shot several group pictures, but it was time for them to have a family photograph (or two) made.

I got a lot of great pictures, so it was hard choosing my favorites…but these are definitely among my list of favorites!

Here are Ron & Dinia…such a sweet couple!

This is Ashley…she is a brand new veterinarian!  Her two pups, Clarence & Emmie, were fun to try to catch with the camera!

Who could resist kissing on such a sweet face?! Especially not his mama!

He was such a trooper…it was warm, and he was serious.  But he hung in there with us, even till the very end!

And finally, I couldn’t resist sharing a photo of Ron’s mother…the larger family reunion I shared at the beginning of this post was held at her house.  She seemed like such a kind, gentle lady…and very much enjoyed our time taking photographs.  I think she is very beautiful!

The Electric Veltens

My brothers and their college roommate have a band that is doing a lot of fun things right now.  They recently cut a demo CD and needed some photographs and artwork to go along with it.  Of course, shooting photos for a (I’m not sure what genre they consider themselves) pop/punk/alternative band is something different for me.  But it was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to the next time I can shoot for them!

Sarah’s Bridal Portraits

I’m not sure if you know this, but my little sister is getting married! When she was looking for a dress, she had very specific feelings about certain elements and whether or not she liked them. There were quite a few things that she knew she absolutely wouldn’t want.  Well…wouldn’t you know, the perfect dress…HER dress…ended up having one of each of those (previously) undesired elements. Maybe in the case of dresses, all the “wrong” things DO make a “right!”

And let me tell you, it’s beautiful – she will be a lovely bride!

I wish I could share all the photographs I took, but we don’t want to ruin the surprise for her fiance – my future brother-in-law. So, for now, I’ll give you a peek into her beauty…with the promise of pictures in another month or so.  :)

I’m Back! Featuring Printed Products

Wow!  After a very busy holiday season, I had to take a small, unofficial break from the world of photography.  Almost 2 months have passed, and I have seriously dropped the ball on keeping up with this blog.

So, what’s been going on?  We have  been busy with life – Nathan (my husband) was TDY (with the military) for 6 weeks, so I’ve been pulling double duty at home.  And it seems that he brought the flu home with him, so we’ve all been working hard at getting well.  Now that he’s back, and we’re on the road to recovery, it seems that my time is going to be a bit more flexible in the near future…and the weather is about to become gorgeous!

So…if you don’t get where I’m going with all of that, this is a great time for photographs!  I am now actually located in Montgomery, Alabama – but we have family all over Alabama, and I still schedule sessions in the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Huntsville areas.  I’m also available to travel to other places…so email or call me with your ideas and we will go from there!

Since I’ve not been behind the camera as much lately, I just wanted to share a few of my most recent press printed cards.  Thus far, I created done several in these categories:  Christmas cards, birth announcements, adoption announcements, and save-the-date cards.  There are so many possibilities, though – birthday invitations, cards for any holiday, calling cards…and the list could go on.  One card design is complimentary with a photo shoot.

Here are a few samples for now; I’ll be adding more to the gallery, soon:

Saturday in the Park…

This beautiful family and I had a session scheduled for this past Sunday afternoon in a local park.  We had to keep our eye on the forecast, though, because we were looking at a really stormy day on Sunday.  So, instead of taking our chances, we went ahead and bumped the session up to Saturday (also a chance of rain, but less of one).  I’m so glad we made that decision because we had the best time!!  And literally…we got in our cars and the bottom fell out of the sky.

This family is super cool – they radiate happiness and don’t you think their little guy is just precious?  He’s a definite charmer, with that big smile!  And Saturday was the first day that he stood, holding on to something and let go…just standing there.  And it happened right as I was snapping a picture…so they have that moment on camera.  How cool is that?

Meet Kay-Tee

Well, actually, this is Kaitlyn, but she calls her self Kay-Tee. :)  She is SUCH a cutie, and I had the best time photographing her!! She speaks very deliberately and is very active.  She kept going from one place to another, saying, “I. want. togo. over. here!”   Children this age always present a challenge, because they are constantly on the move and have no concept of (really) what I’m trying to do with that camera.  But I love the challenge…it’s one of the reasons I enjoy this work!!

Monica & kids

Last weekend, I met Monica and her 2 precious kiddos to take some pictures.  We had a fun time and I got some great shots!  Here are a few of my favorites… :)

She was way more interested in filling her pumpkin with acorns than taking pictures :)

She was dying to have her picture taken with her pumpkin!

Ashley

I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since I last posted. Life has been VERY busy (which, I know, is no excuse is it?)

Anyway, here are some pictures I took last weekend… my friend Ashley is about to graduate from college with her degree in nursing. So she wanted a few pictures in her cap and gown, and then we decided to take some portraits.

Ashley is SO pretty, and we had a fun time!  All the pictures turned out so good…I couldn’t narrow my “post choices” down to just a couple!
